Running your own thing means you make every decision, absorb every setback, and celebrate alone at 11pm. There's no manager checking in on you, no performance review, no one asking whether the pace you're keeping is sustainable. Entrepreneur counseling at Navigating Though Life LLC fills that gap — a standing hour where someone is paying attention to you, not just to your numbers.
When the business depends on you and nobody's counseling you
Most of the entrepreneurs who come to us aren't failing. They're doing well enough that stopping feels impossible and tired enough that continuing feels impossible too. They're carrying decisions they can't discuss with employees, worries they won't put on a spouse, and a to-do list that regenerates faster than they can clear it.
Counseling here is not a business consultancy. We don't write your marketing plan or review your books. What we do is work on the person making the calls — your clarity, your boundaries, your tolerance for risk, the stories you tell yourself when a launch flops or a key hire quits. Fix those and the business decisions get noticeably easier to make.
You can't out-hustle a decision you keep avoiding. Most of what looks like a business problem turns out to be an unmade choice.
What a counseling session actually looks like
There's no script and no workbook you have to complete. You bring what's loudest that week — a partnership going sideways, a price you're afraid to raise, the fact that you haven't taken a full day off spring — and we work it through out loud. Expect direct questions. Expect to be asked what you actually want, which is a harder question than most founders are used to answering.
Sessions usually end with one or two things you've committed to, specific enough that you'll know next time whether you did them. We follow up. Accountability is half the value of having a coach, and it's the half most people can't manufacture on their own.
The sticking points we work on most
- Decision paralysis — you've been weighing the same choice for months and the weighing itself has become the problem. We find out what you're really protecting.
- Boundaries with clients and staff — the discount you always give, the text you always answer at 10pm, the employee you keep covering for. We rebuild the lines and rehearse the conversations.
- Burnout you've normalized — if exhaustion has become your baseline, we work on what can actually be handed off, dropped, or scheduled differently, not just on resting harder.
- Confidence in the room — pitching, negotiating, raising rates, firing someone. These are learnable, and practicing them with a coach beats learning them in front of a client.
- Identity tangled up in the business — when a slow quarter feels like a verdict on you as a person, we separate the two.
- Working through loss while still running the company — grief doesn't pause for payroll, and our background in grief counseling means we can hold that alongside the business conversation instead of asking you to leave it at the door.
You don't need to have a crisis to start. Plenty of clients come in because things are fine and they'd like them to be better, or because they can feel a bigger decision coming and want to be steadier before it arrives.
Booking your first session
The first session is mostly listening — your history with the business, what's working, what you've already tried, and what you'd want to be true a year from now. By the end of it we'll both know whether this is a good fit and roughly how often you should be coming in.
We keep evening hours on Monday and Saturday morning hours specifically for people who can't step away from the business midweek. If a standing weekly slot works better than booking one at a time, say so and we'll hold one for you.
To get started, call (609) 851-0217 or email mhoward1759@gmail.com with a couple of times that work for you, and we'll get a first session on the calendar.
